Pricing and trial
The two services price in different ways. Buffer’s paid plans cost a fixed amount for each channel you connect. On monthly billing that is $6 a month per channel on Essentials and $12 on Team for the first ten channels, with lower rates after that. PostDelegate plans cost a flat amount for a bundle of channels, from $19 a month for 5 channels on Starter to $39 a month for 30 channels on Pro.
That difference grows with the number of channels. Five channels on Buffer Essentials come to $30 a month, against $19 on PostDelegate Starter. Ten channels with a team come to $120 a month on Buffer Team, against $29 on PostDelegate Team. Thirty channels on Buffer Team come to $195 a month with its lower rates past the tenth channel. PostDelegate Pro covers 30 channels for $39.
For a very small setup the sums go the other way. Buffer has a free plan for up to three channels with ten scheduled posts per channel, and three channels on Essentials cost $18 a month. PostDelegate is a paid service. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial that needs no credit card, and you add a card before the trial ends to keep your plan. Buffer offers a 14-day trial of its paid plans and moves you to the free plan if you do not upgrade. PostDelegate yearly billing costs about 20% less than paying monthly; see the pricing page for the yearly prices.
AI
Buffer includes its AI Assistant on every plan, for drafting, refining and repurposing posts. PostDelegate takes a bring-your-own approach. An admin adds the workspace’s own OpenAI API key in Settings, and AI writing, the Agent and AI images then run on that key. You pay OpenAI directly for what you use, and PostDelegate never charges for AI.
You can also bring the assistant you already use. The PostDelegate MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code and other MCP clients look at your channels, draft posts and schedule them. Posts drafted this way can wait in the AI review inbox until someone on the team approves them, so an assistant never has the last word. Buffer also offers an MCP connection for Claude and ChatGPT, so the question is less whether an agent can reach your calendar and more how its drafts are reviewed. If you would rather not manage an API key at all, Buffer’s built-in assistant is the simpler route.
Teams and approvals
On Buffer, more than one user and approval workflows come with the Team plan, which is priced per channel. On PostDelegate, team members come with Team, Pro and Ultimate. Posts carry statuses, clients can approve a post from a link without creating an account, and drafts from AI assistants arrive in a review inbox. PostDelegate also has campaigns, an ideas board, evergreen posts that recycle on a schedule, bulk CSV import and a media library that takes uploads up to 1 GB.
Channels
This is the biggest difference today. Buffer lists twelve networks, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack. PostDelegate connects 18 networks today: YouTube, Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Tumblr, Lemmy, Nostr, Twitch, Kick, Dribbble, DEV.to, Medium, WordPress, Hashnode, Listmonk (email). Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest and Reddit are waiting on platform approval and cannot be connected yet. X is not available on PostDelegate.
The networks both services can reach today are YouTube, Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profile. PostDelegate also publishes to blogs and developer communities such as WordPress, Medium, DEV.to and Hashnode, to community chats on Slack, Discord and Telegram, and to email through Listmonk. The channel directory shows exactly what can be connected right now.
Where Buffer is the better pick today
- You need to publish to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, Threads or Pinterest today.
- You manage one to three channels and want a free plan rather than a trial.
- You want AI included in the plan without adding an API key of your own.
Where PostDelegate fits
- You run five or more channels and want a flat price that does not rise with every channel.
- You work with clients who approve posts from a link, without an account.
- You want Claude, ChatGPT or a coding agent to draft and schedule posts, with a person approving them first.
- You publish to YouTube, Bluesky, blogs, developer communities, community chats on Slack, Discord or Telegram, or a newsletter.
What to check before choosing
- Whether the exact accounts you manage can connect and publish today.
- The monthly total for your real number of channels and people, not the headline price.
- How you want to pay for AI: included in the plan, or on your own key.
- How approvals work for your team and your clients.
- The support, subscription and data-handling terms of each service.
